Spain debuts internationally in an official competition of wheelchair rugby and also does it as host country of the European C Championship and in a city, Oviedo, which has always been linked to the sport of people with physical disabilities and in which I have double responsibility on this occasion, as President of the Organizing Committee and as born in Oviedo.
We face this European C Championship with great enthusiasm for several reasons: to assess the level of Spain in international competition, to make an organizational debut with an IWRF event and also to grow as a country in a sport that begins to have many clubs and federated athletes.
I am convinced that the countries that will visit us at the beginning of October will be pleasantly surprised with the organization and everything that surrounds it, city, people, gastronomy, history...
To the participating teams, my best wishes hoping that they will offer the best on the court and will attain their sporting objectives, good luck to the arbitral committee in their always difficult decisions, and to the public that will accompany us in this European C Championship I hope that you will enjoy a great sporting event of this great sport that is wheelchair rugby at the Hermanos Cechini Sports Center.
Best regards to you,
José Alberto Álvarez García
